Meeting Minutes March 11, 2019

Attended: Mark Winrod, Paula Winrod, Andrew Winter, Joseph Fundale, Stacie Kovach, Karen Gingrich, Louise Reed, DJ Kish, Dave Drogell, Linda Drogell

Meeting called to order: 1910

Meeting Minutes from January 14, 2019:

  • No corrections or additions to minutes.
  •  Motion to approve by Joe Fundale, second by Karen Gingrich. Motion carried

Financial Report: Current balance $29,901.04 

  • Pepsi bill outstanding, recent concession deposits outstanding;
  • Kent David working on getting QuickBooks up and running, need to add DJ Kish to CMA accounts
  • Clarification provided on Cracker Barrel transactions
  • School district owes $1500.00 to CMA for construction of shed (discussed below)
  • Motion to approve report by Stacie Kovach, second by Paula Winrod. Motion carried

Music Director Report:

  • Florida trip successful- Mr. Winter thanked parents and stated kids were awesome
  • OMEA solo and ensemble – majority of instrumentals were rated “1” by judges
  • MIOSM concert – went well with positive feedback from audience members
  • Winter Guard – great improvement in scores at last competition; will be competing at state finals the end of the month
  • Upcoming – Arts Expo, Music Festival in Sandusky for middle school band/choir and high school jazz band, Memorial Day parades
  • Will be redoing trophy case and shelves over spring break
  • Mr. Winter raised safety concerns with practice field being moved to grass field behind high school – drainage issues causing slipping/sliding of students when marching, potholes/sinkholes, and lift sinking in soft ground – this will need to be addressed
  • Mr. Winter raised issues with acoustics in gymnasium during concerts – suggestions for hanging curtains along back wall to improve sound, perhaps installing a hydraulic curtain- would need to investigate cost and feasibility with maintenance/athletic director

Fundraisers

  • The Lafayette Church has been reserved for the Dinner/Basket Auction Saturday, November 16, 2019
  • Basketball concessions finished for season – do not have season totals yet
  • Cavalcade of Sound will be Saturday, September 14, 2019
  • Malley’s candy orders due March 14, 2019 by paper, have until April 14, 2019 of ordering online
  • Boyert’s fundraiser will be upcoming
  • Concessions for spring musical March 14-16, 2019 – need a few volunteers still

Old Business:

  • At past meeting, Mark Winrod was re-elected as President (2 year term), DJ Kish was elected as Treasurer, completing the last year of previous treasurer’s term (1 year), Louise Reed was elected as secretary (2 year term), and Stacie Kovach was re-elected as member-at-large (2 year term)
  • Eagle Scout Band Shed – completed by Daniel Summers – moved to a new location since will be unable to use baseball field parking lot for at least 2-3 years (needs repaved)
  • Oil Bath for truck and trailer – DJ reports that products have been obtained, need nice weather and electrical supply that can handle a small air compressor

New Business

  • Seville Yard Sale- band requested to handle parking again at Cy Hewitt Park; mayor also asked if band students could provide entertainment at times throughout the event
  • Sandusky Music in the Parks Festival – Cedar Point trip – discussion regarding timing of events which are still be worked out
  • CMA Scholarship for Music Major – available to graduating seniors pursuing a music major – consult with guidance department for specifics on applying and eligibility
  • Destination ideas for next band trip 2021 – poll by Mr. Winter of students indicates interested in city trip vs Florida – New York would be first choice followed by Chicago – cost and logistics will be investigated by Paula Winrod and Mr. Winter
